Surfboards for when your metabolism slows down

Surfing in the summer can often include floating next to kids who look like they weigh about 90 lbs, sitting upon potato chip thin boards that seem to catch the wave on their own. If you tried to sit on the same board you’d hit bottom.

But school is back in session (ha, sorry kids), and it’s a great time to get out and experience the Fall swells and smaller crowds. It’s also a great time to invest in a little extra foam, which helps to balance the heavier wetsuit and any residual effects of last nights macaroni and cheese.

One of our favorite models this year… the Channel Islands Fishcuit. It floats and paddles like a much longer board, and is light and fast. Can help you feel like a shortboarder even though you really are not.

I ride a 6’2,” which is big for a fish, but it allows me to surf it in almost any type of wave around New England. Three inches of foam between you and the water goes a long way towards more time riding.
